I OPPOSE QUOTA

The Students of Various colleges of Kanpur (including IIT Kanpur) go for a Cycle Rally on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 to show sloidarity with all the protestors against reservation all over the country. the next move will be an ALL INDIA COMBINED PROTEST...plz pass this news to as many people as possible to help stop the menace being finalized by the government of India.
Students have also appealed to switch off the lights between 8 to 8:10 pm on 22/5/06, Monday in protest against Quota

Dear Friends,
There have been a lot of things going around in protest to quota. "Youth For Equality" are out with a massive agitation against Quota. But please dont think that there are only anti-reservation rallies moving around. We also have a lot of pro-quota rallies rivalling the anti- quota ones. But I feel that it is high time people understand that everything should now be sought on the basis of merit. With more malicious statements following this one, I guess soon a time would come when we'll need to reserve seats for open castes as they would be the only minority segment existing then. Or else we all would need to convert to some cast cause there might not be any seats left for the open candidates.

After 58 years of independence, we still continue to depend on reservations. Why should this happen? Today, I feel that everybody from the reserved castes have been done enough justice. In fact students from the open castes are now suffering. In the rallies, the pro-quota agitators have also burnt an effigy of Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy who gave an anti-quota statement. The continued agitations for more reservations merely highlight the incapability of the reserved castes to cope up with the developing ambience. Every person has strived hard to gain a good economical stand after independence and partition. The refugees too have become independent today. Talk about the residents of J&K. They had to vacate their hometown and settle elsewhere in India. Yet, they have settled well in the past ten years. This simply proves that economical, educational and individual indentity, independence and stability is achieved by efforts and not by favoring reservations or seeking support from them.

Those who still depend on reservations would continue to do this for aeons to come. It is high time that we all analyse our own facets and start working for achievements and success on the basis of "who we are" and not on the basis of "which caste we belong to." There is the existence of a word called "Person" and it stands for "The composite of characteristics that make up an individual personality; the self." This "Person" should be recognised by every person and should be put to work to achieve the set goals and targets on the groundwork of his own endeavor.
